With these (de)composition photographs of the fragmented ceramic self portraits, I wanted to capture a sense of intimacy with the interesting fragments of the deteriorated heads. The fragmented self portraits are set in white space to add a sense of isolation to the decayed heads. The large scale of the photographs increases the level of intimacy that the viewer has with the intricate details. By being able to see each crack and each fracture that naturally occurred during the decomposition of the clay heads, the viewer can appreciate and hopefully find beauty in the natural processes of decay that occur after death.
